A significant component of the course will focus on ACT English and Reading preparation.

AP English Literature and Composition teaches students to read challenging stories and poems closely and think deeply about what they mean. Students study an author’s word choice, structure, style, themes, and literary techniques like figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. They also learn to write clear, organized, and persuasive essays, including timed writing, and improve their work through feedback from the teacher and classmates.

The AP English Language and Composition course develops analytical, rhetorical readers and writers. Students learn to read critically by examining how authors make choices based on social context, audience, and purpose. Course texts are primarily nonfiction from diverse sources and genres—academic journals, advertisements, scientific arguments, letters, political cartoons, critical essays, and data visualizations. Students produce similar formal and informal writing, becoming skilled rhetorical writers who compose for varied purposes and contexts while attending to audience, rhetorical modes, and social factors.

Honors Secondary Math 2

This is a required course for sophomores who have completed Secondary Math 1. Honors topics provide a deeper understanding of quadratic functions, complex numbers, matrices, series, and probability, and prepare students for subsequent courses. This course is required for graduation and must be completed before enrolling in any CE course.

College Prep Math

College Prep Math (CPM) is designed to review and reinforce key concepts from Secondary Math 1, 2, and 3. The goal of this course is to solidify students’ understanding of foundational skills and address any knowledge gaps before students enroll in a college-level math course the following semester. Students who take CPM in the Fall should register for CE Math 1050 - College Algebra or CE Math 1040 - Intro to Statistics in the Spring. Please see the corresponding course prerequisites for each course.


Math 1500 Prep

Math 1050 Prep is a preparatory mathematics course designed to support students planning to enroll in CE Math 1050. The course is intended for students who have not yet met the placement requirements for CE Math 1050, as well as students who meet the requirements but would benefit from additional practice and review. The syllabus aligns fully with the CE Math 1050 curriculum, providing comprehensive coverage of all required topics. Students who have not met placement requirements are required to take the ALEKS Placement Exam at the conclusion of the course to determine eligibility for enrollment in CE Math 1050.

This course will focus on problem-solving techniques, financial mathematics, modeling, geometry, probability, and statistics. Material will be introduced inthe form of real-life problems. Prerequisite material will be incorporated as appropriate.

This course will help students develop critical thinking skills with lifelong application. Students will gather, graph, examine, compare, and interpret data using technology, including graphing calculators or computer statistics software.  They will describe data and make informed decisions and predictions based on data.

This course covers a survey of college mathematics and is also a preparatory course for  calculus. Math 1050 fulfills the Quantitative Literacy (QL) requirement for an associate's degree at WSU and is required for many majors in business, biological and physical sciences, engineering, and mathematics.

MATH 1060 is intended to prepare students for entry into the Calculus sequence by providing rigorous coverage of trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, and vector analysis.

The course introduces calculus concepts and covers Limits, Continuity, Differentiation, and Integration.  This course prepares students for advanced concepts taught in subsequent calculus courses (Calculus II and Calculus III).

This course will cover two periods in your first semester schedule to teach Math 1050 and Math 1060 in the same semester, in preparation to take Math 1210—Calculus I in the second semester. Math 1050 builds on algebraic topics from Secondary Math 3, improving students’ skills in advanced algebra; Math 1060 provides rigorous coverage of trigonometric functions, identities, and vector analysis.

Honors Biology

Honors Biology is an in-depth, lab-focused course that explores the living world through the scientific process. Students study cells and cellular processes, human anatomy, genetics, ecology, and evolution, examining life from the molecular level to complex organisms. AP Biology

This year-long course prepares students for careers in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries through project-based learning and 3D CAD modeling. Digital Electronics (Intro to AI Artificial Intelligence)  This course begins with the basics of electronics, moves into components, and then into circuit construction, building  power supplies and circuit testers while learning soldering basics. We learn number systems and waveforms, and about how computers combine electronic components to perform artificial intelligence. We design a lot of electrical circuits, such as basic computer memory, binary clocks, calculators, etc. And we learn how to program whole circuits into integrated circuits. This class preps you for the age of automation, it is also the highest paying field of all Engineering Fields. Membership in TSA and/or Robotics is encouraged.

This is an introductory course on the different facets of the aerospace industry. Students will build one fixed-wing glider and one quadcopter, as well as design a delivery system. This course introduces students to the tools, components, procedures, and documentation associated with UAS. Students will develop basic troubleshooting skills and repair techniques for a fixed-wing glider and a quadcopter. Students will also practice using various tools, soldering skills, battery math, component matching, and diagraming. Students who take this course are REQUIRED to take it for CE credit. Membership in TSA is encouraged.

Teacher assistants provide an important service to the school by helping the teachers in the classroom. Students must complete a form with the teacher’s signature. This form is available in the counseling office. Excellent attendance, grades, and citizenship are required. Students will be trained in the responsibilities and procedures of working with the teacher in the classroom. This class gives elective credit but does not count in the GPA. It is graded Pass/Fail.

No prior journalism experience is required. The yearbook focuses on developing journalistic skills in interviewing, writing, photography, and design to create professional-level newspapers each month and the school yearbook. The curriculum includes writing assignments for everyone, as well as assignments pertaining to specific staff requirements. Students will have homework requirements and may be expected to cover after-school events such as dances, club activities, and other meetings.
